Founded in June 1946 and then transformed into 
a public institution of higher education in 2001, the University of Health Sciences (USS) has 3 faculties and 1 technical school: Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Dentistry and Technical School for Medical Care.
The mission of the USS is to contribute to the improvement of the health of the Cambodian population by providing high quality training, in-depth research in the health sciences to students and high-quality medical services.
The university currently has 420 employees (2018), and 1893 teachers including 56 foreign teachers. USS offers professional training on several levels in the field of health sciences (46 programs: undergraduate, bachelor, master, doctor of medicine specialized and 3 international programs).
USS has more than 6,000 students (2018) and each year it awards about 1,400 bachelor's degrees and about 100 doctoral degrees in specialty medicine. Each year, USS conducts between 12 and 14 research projects and publishes about 10 scientific articles in international scientific journals.
As with all Cambodian public universities, USS faces the challenges of empowerment from 2020. Its development plan for the 2019-2023 period is being implemented as of 2019 but the action plan still needs to be defined and operationalized. For the USS, it is a question of having a strategic vision over determined periods, which commits decisions and affects its resources; of rethinking a model of open university governance encompassing the stakeholders in a participatory logic: political and socio-economic actors, but also those of civil society.
The USS will participate in this project as a partner HEI. It will participate in the activities by planning the work program in close collaboration with the consortium members. USS is the leader of WP4 which deals with the self-evaluation of the development strategy of each partner HEI because of its experience and expertise in the elaboration of a development plan. The USS will host the Sequence 3 of restitution of the WP5 and the launching of the WP 6 in the framework of the project.
