With more than 3,700 teachers and professors ULand approximately 54,000 students, including nearly 8,000 foreign students, the University of Lorraine (UL) is one of the largest multidisciplinary universities in France. Its location in the heart of Europe, on the border with three EC member countries, gives it a privileged position and a strong international outlook.

Located in the heart of Europe, the UL is one of the members of the border university network of the Greater Region, which includes Lorraine, Saarland, Rhineland-Palatinate, Luxembourg and Wallonia, and involves 7 European universities. The university has extensive experience through its many international partnerships. The scientific activity of the UL is organized within its 61 research laboratories grouped around 10 thematic sectors and 8 research federations covering a wide range of disciplinary fields and subjects. As a major recent success, the UL and all its territorial partners (EPST and hospital) have been selected for the implementation of their I-SITE project. This initiative, a mark of Excellence of the University of Lorraine, is organized to contribute to meeting the main socio-economic challenges through the contributions of research, education and innovation.

From a pedagogical point of view, the UL is structured in 9 collegiums, regrouping the 53 components of the University (schools, UFR, faculties, institutes...) and offers initial training covering all fields of knowledge. It also develops bridges with other establishments and between disciplines, thus allowing students to adapt their course according to their personal evolution.

The UL is also a major player in lifelong learning in France, with approximately 3900 students and 1500 diplomas awarded.

Doctoral training represents approximately 1,800 doctoral students in 8 doctoral schools for almost 400 theses defended per year.

The UL, in accordance with its identity, intends to contribute to innovation through the dialogue of knowledge and in a perspective of openness to the international. The University of Lorraine is labelled HRS4R, the label commits the university to a quality approach centered on the researcher, with the main objectives of mobility, opening up to the job market by facilitating the professional integration of PhDs, a working environment conducive to the conduct of research activities, in compliance with the principles of equity, gender equality, equality, ethics and scientific integrity.

The university has a strategic project, shared with the community and piloted as part of the institution's continuous improvement process, in research, training and governance. The experience acquired in these areas is recognized by the national and international community.

 

Role in the project

The University of Lorraine brings to the project its experience in the design, deployment and monitoring of the implementation of strategic projects and their action plans, as well as their thematic and organizational variations.

The regular practices of internal evaluation, self-evaluation, and participation in external audits and the multidisciplinary skills of the team formed by the institution allow it to carry out the WP5. By mastering and using the tools necessary for the construction and monitoring of the implementation of strategic projects, the UL and its experts will provide advice, training and methodological support to the beneficiary institutions of the project to help them achieve ambitious, realistic and feasible project approaches. The University of Lorraine's Delegation for Steering Assistance and Quality will coordinate the project. The university will mobilize internal experts in addition to those listed below, depending on the needs of the project and therefore of the partners. The university will coordinate the WP5 on strategies and action plans in collaboration with the UAH and will host the partners in France.
